How many lsass files should I have in my windows directory please,it;s just that I have 3 ,in 3 different locations?

C:/I386 LSASS <---------------Note capital letters concern me :confused:
C:/WINDOWS/SYSTEM32 lsass
C:/WINDOWS/servicepackfiles/i386 lsass

Hmm that does look a bit dodgy. This link says the lsass.exe should only be in the System32 folder.

Run HijackThis if you can and post that here or run Ad-Aware/Spybot etc to see if they pick anything up.

Have you checked were it is on you pc?

I have lsass.exe in \winnt\system32 and \winnt\servicepackfiles\i386

No I386 folder or LSASS.EXE file on mine. I'm running XP SP2.

Hmm that looks OK to me. Well apart from the Norton appearances. :p

Perhaps your PC has a genuine reason to have lsass where it is. Can't think what it might be. Run Ad-Aware and Spybot and perhaps Ewido as well and see what they say.

Yeah it could be. The HijackThis log looked OK to me and if you are happy with the scans then should be OK. How did you find the lsass' by the way? Are they actually running or did you just find the files in the folders?

Was playing BF2 last night and my firewall popped up saying lsass was trying to connect to something cannot remember what (udp or something)

So I allowed it then checked my pc and found 3 files ,did a google search and was getting a little concerned.If I look in task manager there is only 1 showing there.

Identify the first letter.

Is it a capital i or a lowercase L.

L is good i is bad.

I think you look ok.

First one is in a Windows /i386 folder.
Second is the system file in the system32 folder.
Third is a version from a service pack

Nothing to worry about, they are part of msn messenger.

FYI I also have lsass in system32 and servicepackfiles
