Just bought a pair of KEF LSX II, they're currently connected via USB to SoundBlaster G6 then optical out to the main speaker.

Is there a way of controlling the speaker volume with PC controls volume?

Sounds like the G6 has fixed level digital output which is normal.
I don't have either devices but I think you need to connect the PC direct to the Kefs via USB.

I had a dabble at controlling the original LS50W via network, and at the time there were a few home automation projects being worked on.
I've just found this tool which might do close to what you've after - https://github.com/proflylab/kef-control (it's for the original LSX and I don't know if KEF changed the protocols for the LSX2).
FWIW I've got my original LSXs connected via optical to my PC. I leave the LSX volume at a moderate level and then use the windows volume control - not ideal but good enough.
