Hello everyone,

Hope your all well?

I registered a limited company while living in London 3 months ago, haven't traded yet & its an online company.

I've now moved back to Scotland to be closer to family am I right in saying my registered office must be in England/Wales and can be a virtual office provided by the liked of registered address etc? but my director address/business address can be a virtual office in Scotland?

Many thanks for the help,
David

The registered address is the default place official communications go, it has to be a physical address and has to be in the country where the company was registered, which will be England for you. But there's no problem then having a trading address in Scotland.

Check the rules for company addresses
You must provide a registered office address when you set up a limited company. This is where official communications will be sent, for example letters from Companies House.

The address must be:

  • a physical address in the UK
  • in the same country your company is registered in, for example a company registered in Scotland must have a registered office address in Scotland
You can use a PO Box, but you must still include a physical address and postcode.

Your company address will be publicly available on the online register. You cannot remove the address from the register.

Keeping your address private
If you do not want your address to be publicly available (for example, if it’s your home or someone else lives there) you can either:

  • use a different address, such as the address of the person who will manage your Corporation Tax - you must get their permission first
  • appoint an agent who will give you an address to use
You must have the address in place before you register your company.
