Just watched this video.

Quite and interesting watch to see GN call out LTT like this (needed to be done to be fair)

Appologies if in the wrong place felt as this was a tech channel it was more appropriate for this forum!

Ah i just posted this in the general hardware thread as i thought it was more generic.

But it was an interesting video, just finished watching their attitude to these companies challenging them were a disgrace. That waterblock story was actually heartbreaking and potentially devistating for that new start up company.

Really can't believe what they did with with that water block, not only did they not test it properly, they apparently never followed their instructions, never sent it back as requested as it was their best prototype and then auctioned it off!. This was a small startup and if it hasn't already it could kill that company.

And now that prototype is out in the wild that device could end up being copied and really kill the company, I really hope Linus gets his ass sued over this one.

It's more scummy as why would anyone now trust them with an NDA? I mean they may not have signed one, but why would anyone trust them after that.

I'm pretty sure I watched that water block video, was that the all in one GPU/CPU block? Yup the testing was trash so I can see why they would be upset up about it but to play devils advocate, the conclusion that no one should buy it wasn't exactly wrong. If GN tested it, their conclusion would have also been don't waste your money, even if you are a mad baller.

Should be an interesting YouTube drama week in the tech space anyway :D

Yikes - that GN video is 45 mins what is the TLDW?

only 20mins at 2x my prefered speed as he talks so slow, it's worth a watch though he calls out some really shady things and provides evidence of it. Linus on a WAN show basically called out "youtubers" who are supposed to be his "friend" so should give him the benefit of the doubt Steve basically went full FU terminator mode and said "nah brah" and called out poor testing, bad figures incorrect data screwing business over, shady/unethical practices the heatsink one is a hell of a story

TLDW a small start up lent LTT their prototype heatsink, they **** all over it and when the company asked for it back, they said yes several times, then sold it at auction at their LTT Expo profiting off their best prototype potentially ruining their company to competitors.

After this video I doubt Linus will be sleeping well tonight, when ever he gets called out he, has a little cry on the WAN show and is all "I don't know what i've done, people need to like me, they should love me"

Yeh I just watched it at 1.5 speed curiosoty got the better of me. In all honesty, I think he could have said everything that needed to be said with about 1/3 the word count but that's a typical GN video.

A lot of very fair criticism on the accuracy of some of their content, particularly the number of annotations in post for some really basic stuff.

Although I do think GN opened themselves up to a bit of criticism themselves for a couple of points in their own video.

The bold part - they themselves drifted into the speculation with no evidence that actually happened, he could have framed that much better. They also speculated that the hires with industry connections resulted in favourable coverage and not actually having evidence of that either.

I'm all for calling out shoddy work and there has been a lot of shoddy work from LTT recently but if you are doing the calling out of said shoddy work, filling in some gaps with speculation because you don't have the evidence isn't exactly journalistic best practice either.

The TLDR, his correct for calling out shoddy work but he shouldn't have let himself be drawn into speculation about things he didn't have evidence of.

This is true, his critisism was fair, but he put 1 and 1 togethet to get 3, the conclusions are both feasable, probable and could have negative impact however they are not at this point proven so it is speculative like you say.

For those that are TLDR, I can sum up the last 12 hours in gifs:

Jesus, if I could give you an award for this I would take a like god damn!

Currently watching HWU

Looking to see further details / comments from LTT now. Seems to me things may need to be reviews internally at LTT perhaps.

LTT forums seems to be down now also.
I'll watch this when I get back from work tonight, but this one seems like jumping on the bandwagon for likes.

Is this monetised?

Irrelevant?

He knew the mousemat was wrong then refused to refund on a defective products?

Then called out ltt for crap behaviour..

GN is just doing hit pieces to get views, it's a YouTube technique as old as time.

Expect multiple versions of the same recordings until the views drop.

GN is about as unoriginal as it gets, they haven't changed their formula in years. Go back 5 years and bar a hair cut you wouldn't be able to tell the videos apart
I'd have to rewatch the video but I'm pretty sure a refund was offered, it was the fix or a refund.

Anyone defending LTT over this needs to give their head a shake. Just accept that you have been watching a trash tech channel for years. It’s ok. Watch something better.

TBF it's not even that, whether it's trash or not is beside the point, the point is that the highlighted issues are pretty scummy and their response was pathetic at best.

You can still like something and enjoy something while aknowleging problems. I don't understand how so many people are this defensive over a multi millionaire it's just weird.

Reading some of the comments in this thread. I actually want to ask people what size company they work for.

Do these people need to CC the CEO or their direct line manager in every email they write? Are they simply not trusted with making decisions in the companies they work for?

You make a valid point, but at the same time if i was to start auctioning items my company owned off for charity i'd have to run that past someone senior. For an event like LTX it's guaranteed that someone senior would have have to approve those items for auction and I would think he would be aware or at least show an interest in certain elements of the show. Considering how much "pride" he himself talks about LTX you can bet he runs his eyes past everything, might not write it, might not be in control of it sure, but he would have at the very least seen it.

You can pass the missed/ignored (however you wish to interpret it) e-mails off as a employee error sure, but the auction doesn't qualify for the same "pass" that's on him.

They probably need to fire more tha. Just one bloke.

You got the bloke in the original video saying “LMG testing was better than GN and HWUB and don’t need to retest”. Which drew comments from HWUB first then Linus trying to cover it all.

Then you got the bloke or blokes responsible for the prototype

The you got the blokes who are responsible for all the rubbish data being in post production

Then you got that bloke who is constantly spewing out rubbish on camera.

By the time you trim the fat, you get what - Linus and his wife. The. Who do you blame.

Original LTT had a decent team around him doing research and knew tech stuff. It doesn’t seem to be the case any more

You have the same thing that happens to me, dump as much as you can on employees, keep giving them more and more to do and then worry about fixing the problems when an issue occurs.

They would struggle to get a patent for it. As it's a mixture of preexisting ideas jumbled together without a original standout component. For an example see the the majority of water blocks are not protected by patents due to the non uniqueness but the something like the original idea of a water block and pump combined is

No I don't love LMG. I know they aren't a factual information source it's entertainment, but people are acting like Steve is the Messiah despite the fact he's been up to some very sketchy things in the past.
Also acting like Steve has no vested interest in attacking a rival? Like if he was for the truth or to help billet why didn't he contact Linus?

It's obvious that the issue has been caused by one of linuses staff, but people are acting like Linus stole the item himself and.ignored billets emails personally.

I really think you should actually watch the video on 0.25 speed it clearly went too fast for you.

The "attack" wasn't on Linus it was on Linus Tech Tips as a company, the only time he directly crititised Linus was when he himself was talking crap on the WAN show. The majority of the critisism was more about the top down management of the company, overworking and underdelivering. The odd comment about Linus was purely about his personal attitude to the problems he raised and related to the very issues he was raising.

Again... i know, i know i'm still going it.
