Definition :
A lucid dream is a dream during which the dreamer is aware of dreaming. During lucid dreaming, the dreamer may be able to exert some degree of control over the dream characters, narrative, and environment.

I have always had lucid dreams albeit rarely. They are amazing when they happen and I still have memories of lucid dreams that I had years ago, which is unusual as most people, most of the time, can not remember what they dreamed after they wake up.

Most recently I had a lucid dream which began as a normal dream. I was on a city street and a group of men approached me and asked for my wallet. For some reason I realised at this point that I was dreaming and then decided to kick their butts. Very satisfying. Then there are the sex lucid dreams where you can bang anyone you want, but I won't go into any detail on that now. :p

So I was wondering, there must be some lucid dreamers here at OCUK forums. What have you lucid dreamt?

Yes; I generally have 1 a month, occasionally more. I have also managed to dip in and out between full wakefulness and then back in to the same lucid dream state. My ability to direct or control the dream however is generally very limited. Although I can influence the way the dream turns out it can on occasion go down a very different path. I can actually inadvertently end up in some very dark places but it is never frightening or disturbing as I'm aware at all times. I tend to either ride it out or come to full wakefulness.

I also suffer from sleep paralysis.

I thought that was going to turn gay really quickly.

When I do have lucid dreams they are usually extremely random and totally ridiculous. One that sticks in my mind was having to drag my g/f off of a train (like one of those small ones you sit on with your kids) and then us hiding behind a giant toilet roll from German armed forces from WWII. Had to get her off the train as it was heading towards them. My lucid dreams are usually influenced by things I've talked about or seen over the past few days I think and then just cobbled together as randomly as my head can manage :D

I've always had lucid dreams - I kind of assumed it was the normal - probably 4-5 nights a week. Very rare I don't know I'm dreaming, usually very detailed and usually remember a large amount when I wake up and once every couple of weekw or so very vivid with continuity of detail and sound (which I don't normally tend to be aware of in dreams) however my control is limited - I've tried to avoid mentally conditioning myself to take too much control as when I do it normally wakes me up and would likely ruin my quality of sleep on a more regular basis.

Just before I woke up today I was dreaming I was stuck in traffic going up a hill and for some reason decided to pull up google street view on my tablet to see what was over the hill and found a blurred out, but somehow I knew who it was, view of a former work colleague giving someone head in a parked car at the side of the road on street view.

The worst one I had involved me being at the pub with mates. It was the usual affair, getting smashed whilst the footie was on, etc. Pub was packed and loud. Suddenly nature called, so I got up and queued at the toilets for what felt like an eternity. Finally I get to a urinal, pull the python out and the very moment I started, I immediately woke up to find myself standing over my bed ****ing all over it. Never been so devastated and bemused.

I just realised that's probably not lucid dreaming, but yeah. :p

lol. No that isn't lucid dreaming but you do score points for hilarity. I hope the clean up operation went well. :p

In a very similar theme I've had moments when I've woken up, or thought I had, to find myself trapped in my bedroom trying desperately to find an exit to another part of the house; whether it be the bathroom or somewhere else. In one of those moments I desperately needed to urinate. After what seemed an incredible length of time bouncing around the walls of the bedroom I found an urinal and relieved myself. The next morning I awoke to a ripe old smell and a ruined guitar.

Is that really true or a joke? If true you've just blown my mind :D

I've peed the bed at age 8 thinking it was a toilet but since then I've been clean :)

Have any of you had sleep paralysis? that's certainly not fun, suffered it for years not sure why and what triggers it but not had it for many years now, to actually move and fully wake you have to realise your dreaming from then you relax then on you can move. Weird **** :)

Unfortunately it's real. :( I think I had been drinking during the day though so that probably didn't help!

As for lucid dreams, don't you normally wake up with sleep paralysis? That's happened to me a few times and it's not too nice.

Had a dream once where I thought I'd woken up, only I knew I was dreaming, was standing in my bedroom and it was almost like I was there - but every time I tried to walk out the door it was like I spun over vertically head over heels backwards and was standing facing the door again after 3-4 times woke up.

First few times some twenty plus years ago when I first experienced it; it was terrifying. Woke to a feeling of an unseen apparition in the room and a sense of something crushing my chest. It also felt like I was looking through net curtains. There were sounds and voices but indistinguishable. The first few experiences of it were quite surreal and frightening. Now I just roll with it like any form of dream/wake state.

I've suffered from sleep apnea for a long time. Basically I sleep and then feel like I'm suffocating and I then awake with a shock. I hate it but it comes and goes thankfully. The worst part is feeling like I am suffocating. But hey, I do get lucid dreams so I guess it's a trade off!

Wow never had the voices or sounds just could not move had the crushing feeling though.

Not specific to sleep paralysis but I do often hear sounds when transitioning between sleep/wakefulness. I often hear banging like sounds or for instance the phone or doorbell or someone calling my name. On occasions I'm jolted awake. However its all in my subconscious.
