I spotted this on another forum.

The people heading this company up have all the credentials of making it a success, and it's great to see a true rival to Tesla. I'll be interested to find out more about how their autonomous driving system works in comparison for Autopilot. I'd also like to know what the pricing will be in Europe i.e. how does $55k translate in the UK. I can imagine it'll be very close to £55k.

Looks great. I agree that to have another company competing with Tesla would be brilliant. 400 mile range sounds attractive, especially if they can offer it for considerably under £100k.

question is, when are we going to start seeing these ranges in cars normal people can afford?

surely taking things like the stupid autopilot systems et al off would make a big dent in price

The kit needed for autopilot isn't that expensive, a few thousand at most, the clever bit is the software side of things.

equivalent price to a vw golf, or y'know, the kind of cars that are selling in large volumes.

Not for a long time. The shortage of raw materials for batteries is keeping the price high, and the tech is still in its infancy so it'll take a decade at least for cars like this to drop in price. In the mean time we're stuck with the likes of the Leaf.

I mean it's good to have competition with anything as it generally drives price down and quality up but how many high end electric car start ups do we really need? At least Tesla are actually going after the bulk market with the model 3, now that'd i'm quite interested in.

What I don't understand is why these startups can produce sensibly priced electric cars with a sensible range but likes of BMW, Mercedes, Audi etc. cannot?

I doubt that they're investing as much as these start ups. I'm sure that if they wanted to they could bring something decent to market.
What's the average lease now, few hundred down and 250-300 a month? Needs to be something like that to go 'mainstream' IMO.
If it's a 6+35 lease with the model 3 costing c. £31,000 then I can't see why those sorts of figures shouldn't be possible. Whether the model 3 can break the business market and the PCP market, that will determine whether or not they see big success.

1000hp you say?? Not bad and range seems to be decent, 400miles on a single charge.

Doesn't look too bad either.

Now just got to win the lottery and I'll have one of these lol

The new Leaf is the one to watch over the M3 IMO. With the Model 3 costing roughly the same as the current Leaf (before discounts), Nissan have every incentive to bring the spec up and the price down. There's potential there for some stonking deals. Though I doubt Nissan UK will bother until the M3 actually hits these shores. Until then, the Leaf is likely to be the best EV under £50k (so basically no reason to discount :().
