The BMW 6-cylinder diesels sound nowhere near as cluttery as a normal 4-pot POS diesel from any other manufacturer. They don't judder on idle, and on full chat, sound rather beefy. And this is coming from a petrol-head!

thats what i think, one of my mates at uni has a 330d (rich folks) and when he gives it some welly i reckon it sounds better then the 330i as its more grunty

Did not know that BMW is going to have a 4 litre diesel - I can imagine that the output of that will be phenomenal. Certainly V8 petrol beating...

yep i beilve its first going into the 7 series and will also go into the 5 series! lets hope it goes to the 3 series ...... Goodbye Mr RS4 muwhahahaha :D.

EDIT: "The BMW 745d now has an upgraded engine with even more power and torque (242 kW/330 hp and, respectively, 750Nm/553 lb-ft)."

sure it will be doing 350hp when it hits the 5 and 3

Entering the 2006 model year, BMW's top-of-the-range 745d diesel now boasts significantly more power and torque. With maximum output of 242 kW/330 hp and peak torque of 750 Nm/553 lb-ft, the BMW 745d remains the diesel luxury saloon with the highest power and torque.
Offering enormous power reserves at all times, this unique diesel accelerates from a standstill to 100 km/h in 6.6 seconds and has a top speed of 250 km/h or 155 mph (electronically limited). Despite the increase in engine output and torque, fuel consumption remains an astoundingly low 9.5 litres/100 km or 29.7

fuel Cons: L/100miles

city: 13.5
hway: 7.2
avg: 9.5

gets the 7 series to 60 in 6.6 seconds that things hauls ass

those BMW diesels can really move! my dads 730d gets him to 60 in 7.1 i think :D

LOL, do you honestly think it's 'gonna woop my ass' :D

Bring it on ;)

My point is that no matter what performance it has, a diesel will never really feel like a true performance car.

if the 4.5d got put into a 3 series and had a remap it would pwn your car :p *runs*

How likely is that though? Not very....

That's a pointless comment, If I bolted a garret GT42r on to my car it would 'pwn' said 4.5d 3-Series ;)

not really considering the 535d was putinto the 7 and 3 so same could happen with the 4.5

I doubt it. There have been V8 diesel BMW's before, but the engine never went further than the 7 Series. Expect it in the X5, but probably not the 5 and certainly not the 3.

im sure hartgre will do something like that considering they put the V10 m5 engine into the B10

Come on Fox, I thought the ' ;) ' on the end there would show that I wasn't being entirely serious. If it wasn't abvious, then let me know and I'll be sure to spell everything out clearly in future on here.

For those among us who apparently can't tell when I'm just poking at the modern car lovers club on here:

I would take an old American car with a big V8 over a new German car with a diesel because I like the following things about them.

1) the sound
2) the power delivery
3) the ease of maintenance
4) the reliability

That okay with all of you? Anything too complicated about that post?

:p

german cars are a lot more reliable and easy to maintain then americans ones , in fact its what most people buy german cars for

Wow, a whole 150k since its LAST engine rebuild? The fact it hasnt had a new gearbox in 237k but has only done 150k since the last engine rebuild suggests it's had at least one rebuild in its life.

Thats reliability for you ;)

haha pwnage

Well at least it managed 87k on its first engine.

Oh shucks, that must mean that my 330d with 104k on the clock must be long gone

as has my sisters 325 with 116k on the clock  :p

we best arrange a group engine rebuild might get a discount!
