I won:
intel i7 920 processor
Intel extreme series dx58S0 (Smackover)
Both come with a 3 year warranty and boxed unopened.
Should i build an i7 setup or sell the components?

Current system:
Antec 900
P45 MSI NEO-F
intel e7200 @ 3.5ghz Max stable overclock :(
HD 4850 512mb
2gb geil black dragon 4-4-4-12 800mhz
F1 1TB HDD
2x36gb raptors Unused because current mobo doesnt have RAID!
600w coolermaster psu
Xigmatec S1283 stupid pushpins awesome cooler
NEC 195VXM+ LCD

My system is for gaming only. I do nothing but play games and think my current system performs fairly well, i think the only thing that does let me down is the fact i only have a hd4850 but i dont play high resolution or high details because i always play competatively so i havent noticed anything wrong.

I can only see myself wanting an upgrade when my system is not taking advantage of having 2 more cores or not being fast enough then i will upgrade. The biggest game im looking forward too atm is COD:MW 2. I think my next upgrade would be my graphics card considering my processor is 45nm and at 3.5ghz

Current games in order:
COD4
L4D
Quake Live
TF2
CSS
CS 1.6

So should i build taking current components from my system and sell the rest on or sell i7 setup and keep the money for a gpu upgrade in future?

If you don't desperately need the cash/ have anything else in mind, sell your current stuff and build a whole new i7 system.

p.s. lucky bugger!
p.p.s. if you don't want to decide, there's another option, and my e-mail is in trust if you want my delivery details :p

lol where did you win this from if you dont mind me askin? some net jobby or through a mag? arg i wanna win summin! :D
oh and um, +1 for the selling and building a new i7 :P

your only interested in gaming right? ... sell the i7 stuff, buy a humungous gaming card, and upgrade the other stuff in your P45 system as you see fit according to your priorities,
personally I'd buy a better mobo, nothing wrong with 3.5GHz on an E7200 that's a good little CPU, If you want 4GHZ get an E8400 Wolfdale, Oh yeah, stick an ACK backplate on
that XigmateK cooler, does away with pushpin rubbish.

Give to me, i'll add to my collection..na seriously tho build a new i7, and sell your current setup.

++ For selling the I7 gear and upgrading as you see fit. If you play competitively I7 isn't really going to change much for you and hard cash is always good.

thinking along those lines, sell i7 and mobo and keep cash for gpu upgrade as thats my next upgrade and that should definately last me considering cpu is at 3.6ghz

wow at the mixed replies! making it harder hehe - it all depends if games are going to take advantage of quad cores :S mainly cod4

Selling my current bits and buying ram to go with i7 setup sounds like a good futureproof setup but i dont really need a better system atm unless alt tabbing is faster with more ram and cores :D

I won the cpu/mobo for getting most valuble player at cod4 in a LAN tournament

edit* if i do sell i7 bits i would just upgrade to another mid-range card again and not get a top end they are a waste of money :D

Good win, I would sell...

Put money aside then have the fun of deciding what to do with your current system. Eventually a good deal for you will popup on This Week Only and your have the cash ready!!!

If your running xp or vista 64 maybe drop another 2Gb memory in... It cheap for pc6400 atm anyway.

im running xp thats only reason why im still on 2gb but i dont run many programs anyway, its literally a system for games movies and tv lol. The ram is barely used except for irc/xfire/spotify/game/drivers - i like to keep my system fairly clean so dont have a lot of stuff at once anyway.

I would personally keep the i7 system, however, you could try advertising the stuff, and see what offers come through. If the offers are juicy enough, then selling it is cool too. After all, your current PC is still very good for gaming. All you need is another 4850.
Then again, perhaps when the 4890s come out, you could sell the 4850 and buy two!
