Just want to check as I am not too clued up on M.2, I am planning a build around an MSI H110i PRO motherboard. The M.2 port spec is listed as:

1 x M.2 Key M Socket supports type 2280/2260/2242 storage devices in PCIE Gen2 x 4 mode on the back side
ƒ - supports PCIe 2.0x4 standard, 4.2cm/6cm/8cm length M.2 PCIe-interface SSD cards

I am looking at a SM961 Polaris 128GB M.2-2280 in the MM and just want to know if this will work/fit? Albeit at a lower speed due to the Gen2 port?

Yep is will work fine. Your also correct in your assumption. As the slot is limited to Gen 2.0, the top speed the drive will be able to hit, will be much lower then the advertised figures.

incidentaly the Samsung ones come with clone software and I managed to clone a 256gb to a 512gb with windows 10 installed and it worked 100%
