Hi,
I have 2x m.2 in my mobo, they are fine.
This issue started happening after I replaced the bottom slot one, a sabrent 2tb pcie3 with a crucial p3 plus 4tb pcie4)
I have 2 more that I had via an akasa pcie to m. 2 card in a 4x and 1x slot. The Intel had been via the 4x slot and no problems what so ever. I moved the sabrent to the 4x and put the Intel via the 1x in the akasa adaptor.
The sabrent started to be a bit flaky, would drop off occasionally (once a week of gaming every day) from the system, always during use. It had done this once or twice over the previous years while connected via the mobo slot but so rarely I thought nothing of it.
I decided to copy data off it, and it would last for a while after a restart but eventually I couldn't even copy data off the sabrent, it would drop within seconds of starting a copy or crystal disk mark (getting at most the first read speed test done, but not always). I swapped it and the Intel drive around, 1x to 4x and vice versa. The sabrent didn't start working better, but the Intel one then started being flaky. I updated bios and neither showed up until a reseat of both, but neither worked for longer than a few seconds of read.
I bought 2 new pcie- m.2 risers, a 4x and a 1x.
Put the ssd's in, both show up, test, the same result. They drop off after a little bit of read/write.
Often, both will drop while I only test one.
For most of this I had an Intel a380 in the second pcie 16x slot, it dropped from the system once when the sabrent dropped. My 3080 has never dropped/crashed during this testing, neither have my primary ssd's or usb/other devices.
I bought a usb 3 to m.2 enclosure, both drives seem fine, can bench and use fine. Intel is 98% life, 37tbw, sabrent is 78% with only 20tbw, I believe because of the amount of errors recorded on it.
I've tried to reset everything in bios to stock, although I'm only running a minor oc (3600 c18 instead of 3200 c16) and PBO allowing cpu to go to +200 ~5.0ghz.
No change in behaviour so I went back to my oc/undervolt.
I tried forcing the slots to pcie 3 speeds, but not the chipset to cpu connection. And I left my other and two gpu slots at 4.0 speeds too.
Chipset temp has never breached 80c, but it's normally ~65c
Other temps seem fine. Drive temps have never exceeded ~50c during testing and normally been under 40, with heatsinks attached.
Been on bios 3504 (maybe, at least an old version from a year or so ago) and then 4501 and 4601.
I'm running
5900x
Asus x570 hero wifi
64gb ddr4 3200 c16
RTX 3080
WD 2tb sn770 pcie 4 m. 2 for windows
Crucial 4tb p3 plus pcie 4 for storage
1kw super flower psu
Custom water on cpu and gpu
Two offending drives are sabrent rocket 2tb and Intel 650p 2tb iirc. Both pcie 3.
Any ideas?
