M.2 slots

The read and write speeds
Those are what manufacturers use to give the idea
Their drive is the "fastest"
If you saw a drive saying 14GBs and one saying 10GBs
Makes it seem the 14GBs is the obvious winner
To the average consumer
The t700 was certainly up there when first released
I haven't really looked lately to see what pcie5 drives are
Top now

Things like sustained write speed, cache recovery are things
To consider and random 4k performance at queue depths
Plus temperature while doing sustained read/write
Since pcie5 does get hot

Here's t700 review should give an idea what to look for
May even mention whether you're still better off
Putting your money into a larger pcie4 drive
Which might be an option
For me personally m2 drives shine when you have 2 (or more)
Drives of same speed and move files Between the them

For the price of the Taichi lite you can get a decent X670E, I know it was recommended on the HW unboxed video but that was at $240 USD which is around £190, over here it seems to be £100 more expensive which makes it a hard sell imo.
I have aimed at Taichi Lite after advice on this forum (I had no knowledge of it) the Taichi Lite has all the same features as the more expensive "non lite" version, even has the same VRM setup.

It’s a good board but at its price point the only unique thing it offers is the external clock gen, if you’re not into overlocking then there are better alternatives.

Never used a Taichi board, was recommended here…I do like some of its benefits, one of the best 27 phase VRM management around with VRM heat sinks, PCIe 5 coupled with Blazing M.2 heat sinks, 12 USB ports incl USB, and high-end Realtek ALC4082 audio codec and an ESS Sabre9218 DAC.
If you think there is a board that offers this at better value, please let me know.

27 phase VRM is unnecessary, the CPUs are limited by watts not current.

Any B650e/X670e will have at least one pcie gen 5 M.2, some of the X670e have two.

If you’re interested in high end audio then an external Dac will be much better than any onboard.

Assume you don't like the Taichi Lite board, what would you suggest I consider that matches it, I was originally looking at Gigabyte B650E Aorus Master, only considered Taichi after advice on build here.

It’s not that I don’t like the taichi lite, I just think it’s being overpriced here. You can even import one from the US for £240.

If your going to spend over £250 then you might as well go with an X670E.

what model with X670 would you suggest I look at .. see them from £250 ti £1800. Not bought yet so can still change my mind.

I didn't realise you were after USB4, its slim pickings right now unfortunately so the B650e taichi lite or aorus pro x usb4 might be your cheapest options unless you can wait 6 weeks for the X870/X870E chipsets which will make USB4 much more common.

The below is an excellent resource for checking what boards have what features.

Not specifically after USB4 ... but could be useful for off PC storage, easier than using LAN
Thanks for that link.

What do you think is the main benefit of X670 over B650
