Money wise i am not rolling in it lately so what are the big differences between these two products both samsung, both read and write speeds are nearly on the same level, is it the warranty? also the IOPS differs.

My mobo is a maximus viii hero so i know i can get the most out of them but going for the cheaper option Samsung am i losing out on much? it will be purely for windows 10 with my programs installed on, games and everything will be going on my current SSD thanks.

The PM961 and SM961 are basically an OEM version. The SM961 is the same as the 960 Evo (retail version) but without the heat spreader. The PM961 is slightly slower but you wont notice much difference. The PM961 will be the one most people go for hence its out of stock. I dont think you will see it at that price when its back in stock. I just ordered the SM961 but not from OCUK as its a lot cheaper elsewhere.

SM961 is very appealing to me, much difference without the head spreader in terms of performance?

Doesnt affect performance at all it does help take heat away from it but its probably more for aesthetics.
You could always put your own on seen a few people do it.
My SM961 is coming tomorrow just got confirmation. Bargain too.

I've repeatedly heard that the difference between the fastest M.2 SSDs and normal Sata SSDs is completely unnoticeable for the most part.

For that reason the Intel 600p is a more attractive proposition to me due to the lower price and far longer warranty.

I noticed a HUGE difference going from a 500gb 850 evo, to a 500gb samsung m.2 non-nvme a while back on a 5930k system, I'd go as far as saying it's almost the difference of going mechanical->SSD.

I`m expecting a noticeable difference going from 850 Pro 500gb to the SM961. Saying that my windows boots to desktop in about 12 seconds so we'll see.

Not just about speed it will then let me use the 850 Pro as my sole Steam drive and the rest of my games on the Crucial 500gb SSD so I can have two game drives as I keep running out of space on my Game drive.

Installed mine today. Cut my boot time down from 12 seconds to 8 seconds. Loading apps seems a lot snappier too. What caught me out when installing is that SATA 5 and 6 ports can not be used when you install the M.2 so both my SSD's "disappeared". Just moved them to other ports and fine. Migrated my OS drive to the M.2 now got a dedicated Steam SSD and another SSD for other games.

Got a cracking deal on a pre-owned SM961 myself. 512GB one for £160.

I've ordered a little 70mm x 20mm heatsink to stick on it. The question now is, do I first remove Samsung's own label that's on top of the fragile-looking chips...

Only remove the stickers if you want to void the warranty.

It's exactly the same as removing the labels from RAM sticks - shouldn't need heat-sinking.
