Am just about to get this soundcard, in need a couple of questions answered please:

1) I would be connecting a Nad C320BEE amplifier to it, do I require a DAC between the amp and soundcard for it to work correctly, or is it OK just to connect the amp to the 1/4" analogue outputs of the 192?

2) "connect the amp to the 1/4" analogue outputs of the 192" - if this is correct, would I use a 6.3mm jack to RCA phone cable to connect them, and if so, where could I get such a cable?

Many thanks. :)

No you don't need a DAC, the plugin cables have analogue inputs & outputs. Not sure which cables you need though.

You could look at the 2496, dunno if the 192 is worth 2x the price?

I would second that and say the 2496 is fine for most purposes.

The main thing you get over the 2496 with the 192 is balanced audio.
Now, while balanced audio is nice - unless you have balanced inputs on your gear (which you don't on the NAD - nice choice there BTW :) ) it won't make any difference. It's mainly a feature used on long cable-runs in studios anyway. It can make a difference at home - but like I say, you need the gear to hear it.

I doubt you'll be doing much recoding at 24/192 either. I do quite a bit of recording and I never really go above 24/48. Partially 'cos of the disk-space it would eat up!

To connect a 2496 to a standard amp you just need regular 2x RCA -> 2x RCA jacks:

If you did decide to go for the 192 you would need 2x Mono 1/4" TRS jack -> 2x RCA cables.

Get some decent ones if you can, but don't spend the earth.
Something in the range of £10 to £20 (maybe a bit more for the TRS -> RCA) will get you reasonable cables.

Also make sure you don't get too much cable. Naturally, a decent amount of slack is good to have, but I've seen some people with so much cable that it's coiled up on the floor all around them! Not good!

BTW - you can get cables from http://www.soundslive.co.uk.
I've checked and they don't appear to stock anything that OCUK does so I should be OK to link to them.

Here are the jack -> RCA cables:

Not the best quality - but they would do the job.

RCA -> RCA you can get pretty much anywhere.

Just have a google around, or go to your local music and electronics stores.

Hope this helps :)
