What's the deal with the M-Lock versions of dvd's? After watching a couple of xfiles episodes at the weekend I forgot how much I love it so went to buy a couple of seasons, only there are 2 versions, the normal version which is around £50-£70 and the M-Lock version which is £12.99. As you can see just a wee bit of difference in price. From the looks of things they still have all the episodes though

I assumed M-lock was just a different type of packaging.

Lots of tv shows get more recent releases just at a cheaper price (24 did from what i remember). Same dvds, different packaging.

The M-lock versions are just rereleases in a standard (much superier in my opinion) packaging.
I beleive all that changes is that you get packaging that fits in with your normal DVD cases, isn't made out of cardboard, and has a much much better retention mechanism.

I'm a fan of standard DVD packaging that can take some wear and tear, and a huge fan of packaging that holds onto the disks properly, whilst not making it feel like the disks are going to snap when you try and remove them :) ~(IIRC a lot of the "gatefold" sets of thngs like Buffy, Angel, X-files, B5 had serious problems with holding onto the disks during transport)
