M140i vs I30N

Why not go for a Yaris GR? 4WD, fast, and fun! But it's still on a different league to the 140 (i.e. 140 is more premium) - but for a b-road blaster it's worth a look.

i30n is not in the same league as a 140i either. Don't get me wrong the i30n is a fun car, but it depends on what you want but comparing a 140i to an i30n isn't really comparable in my opinion.

I've got a M140i auto, fitted a quaife ATB - problem solved

for me the i30N isn't comparable to the m140i, more comparable to the likes of Golf GTI, and the m140i comparable to the Golf R

Fitting a diff definitely improves the drive and putting the power down, but it doesn't sort how horrible the dampers seem to feel in these Mx40 F series cars. Going over anything that isn't a smooth surface at speed legit feels like the car is trying to throw you off the road like a pogo stick. Seen so many posts on the Facebook group and forums about this and have also owned a M240 myself for over 2 years with the same complaints.

Personally I wouldn't buy one as a B road blaster if that's your main thing. In a straight line or on a roll though there's not many other hatchback that touches them standard. Apart from the A45S/RS3 I suppose but then they're stupid money.

thankfully I've found a solution to that too :D basically I've got the Birds B1 package, although the suspension isn't being fitted until next month (along with m4 lower control arms)

Thanks for sharing your experience with M240i/M140i, basically are the same car with different body.

When I say I30N perf I mean the facelift, they already been dyno with 305hp and 410nm stock. (Could reach 350hp in stage 1).
Still waiting the reviews though ,but seems lighter and much faster than before (I know still FWD) but think about it, all new hothatches are, Or haldex....

I love the GR yaris, but it's tiny and doesn't sound.

The focus RS the suspensions are so harsh for daily like megane trophy.

Type r is ugly (to me )

Thats why I30N ticks all the boxes....

(Now in my radar are: I30N, M140i, upcoming M240i (with lsd) and upcomimg GR corolla (but I don't see the appeal of 3 cylinders in hatchback).

Also GR86, but it would be very slow and I want to feel a turbo car

GRY is not that small, compared to the E85 it is more practical (I've had a couple, now an E89). If you consider it as 2+2 with folding rear seats for more luggage space. A back box, like a Cobra I plan to fit is under a grand to give it a nicer noise.
Focus RS, yep as I said needs a few mods. Suspension kit sorts out the ride issues and 380 MSD engine remap transforms a standard car. Ride and handling then up with anything if not better than most. I'd take my RS over anything else.

Sadly most vehicles need a little tweak to get them how you want it.

Touche, should feel like a totally different car with the diff and birds package. Almost full M car:)

Funny story mentioning birds haha. I got offered a diff recently when I got my Mrs. Alloys done on her car and turned up in my car to drop her back for it. Got chatting with the guy that owned the body shop about it and he was like aw I've got one just like yours, come see. Had a totalled 240 with the birds pack locked away in storage round the back and let me see it. Only noticed the birds part cause it had the badge on the back. Every single panel was bent out of shape, the roof looked pretty caved in and squashed it looked like it could've broke the guys neck. I've honestly never seen a car like it up close... Was quite harrowing looking at it actually, was almost the exact spec of my car apart from alpine White Vs mineral white:eek: Owner had lost it on a bend and flipped it almost onto Gullane golf course:cry: Had go pro footage of it and everything. He said the owner would probably sell bits off it, mainly the diff. Couldn't really see any bits that were worth selling on it if I'm honest. Hopefully you'll be better off than him with the birds kit haha:D

Didn't really wanna buy the diff off it after seeing the car in the end:rolleyes::cry:

No problem, yeah i seen the facelift version is just going on sale here. I actually like the look of it a lot more than the original. Seems to have much nicer, lighter wheels, some proper N branded bucket seats and a few other nice additions. Most people that own the i30N's seem to love the way it drives but say it weighs too much and it really shows it against other cars.

Although tbh I'm passed the whole willy waving prospect of owning a car. Not into dragy times or racing other cars. Don't really care for brand snobbery or what others think of a car, I just want a car that I love to take out for a drive for no reason down some nice roads. Give me a car with a great chassis over ridiculous amounts of power any day:)

Amen!
I'm going to test the i30n facelift and make a decision soon.

Drag times like Mat Watson promotes are useless in real life, (300-350hp 400-500nm) is more than enough for me, but the handling part is the key for enjoy a fast and confident ride.

Bit late to the party but I've just got rid of an i30N performance - albeit not the new model. Moved from a GT86 (fun but slow) to the i30N. Was a great car and lots of fun, sounded amazing and was definitely a head turner but they do have to be driven hard to get the best out of them. Quite a heavy car and not the fastest in a straight line. Has all the tech you could want - at least the outgoing model did. The original plan was to get an M140i and it only didn't happen because our house move caused our insurance premium to nearly double. I don't think you can compare the two cars directly as in reality the M140i is in a different league. Given the choice I'd be BMW all the way.

The new I30n is a bit lighter and more faster with the new turbo.
I also like the gt86 but is so slow and the rear "seats"...

I tried an M140 auto and tuned yesterday, it was so fast. But after trying it for second time I wasn't so surprised about the speed. But in some bends the engine was so laggy (like 3 secs) I'm used to NA and I didn't like at all, it could be due to the bad tuned it had maybe.

But the point that I finally made with these m140/240 are just so refined in all the aspects that doesn't thrills you to go faster in bends.

When I came back to my Z4 I went 10/10 with it and started to laugh, it handles so much better.

I think my next move is an M2 or a cheaper, more adordable and pracrical I30n facelift.

If you can afford the M2 Comp, I would go for that without thinking about any other car. The OG M2 biggest let down is the engine IMHO, however the chassis makes up for it.

The M140i is ok for what it is, but after you invest in all the mods to make it track capable to give you the feedback it misses stock, you're not far off the M2 money.
