Dell XPS M1730
T9300 @2.5ghz
4gb ram
9800m GTX Sli
Windows 7

I got this laptop to play old and current gen games. I don't expect to max todays games but old games yes. I noticed WOW was running kinda bad but thought it was because its an old game not optimized for newer hardware.

But I tried postal 2 a older game and my fps is nowhere near what it should be. Im getting lag spikes and getting around 32-42fps a lot of times. This game needs a Pentium 3, 128mb ram and a 64mb graphics card...
My cpu is running @2.5ghz in games according to CPU-Z so don't think its the issue. One thing I have noticed in CPU-Z is that my GPU speeds aren't running at full speeds. Around half what they should be.

I'm all up to date with drivers etc so have no idea why im not getting the performance I should be getting. I disabled sli but just get a couple fps lower. And when I change my resolution to 1900x1200 to 1280x720 my performance doesn't change at all.

Any help is appreciated.

9800m GTX Sli could be the problem, some games don't play well with SLI.

But as stated 9800m GTX Sli should have more than enough grunt for WoW.

Google search has thrown up quite a lot of post reference this GPU.

Upping the RAM to 8gb could help, as well as checking if you have the latest BIOS and see if there are any VRAM settings to tweak, sorry l can't be have more help.

run some benchmarking and compare your scores to similar m1730s.
Have you done a fresh format and install? its gotta be 6 years old by now, might just need the cobwebs clearing out!

loved my m1730, only recently sold it.
