Hi guys
I am currently running a Corsair Force MP510 and it performance has been disappointing. Write speeds have always been under 600 mb/s. Its my OS drive and I think its time to change.

Are the more expensive drives like the Samsung 980pro worth the extra cost over something like a Crucial P2? Also looking at the WD black.

Im looking for a 1tb drive for just gaming.

Thanks
Gwyn

Thanks for your reply. Its the 480 version I have. Its around 50% full.
I am using Samsung magician to bench it and here are the results:
Read 3460
Write 581
Random read 198486
Random Write 135498

Unluckily the Corsair toolbox does not have any sort of performance benchmark.

Problem for the OP is that this drive appears to contain his O/S.

Might be worthwhile trying one of the other many Performance Bench marking tools like AS SSD, ATTO or Crystal Diskmark.
And see if this backs up Samsung Magician. Then take it from there.

Might be worth downloading the trial version of SSD Life and see if this throws up anything out of the ordinary. No harm trying.
I'd be interested to see things like "hours on", "data written" etc.

Before considering any RMA. If it was me, I would:
1) Back the drive up.
2) Replace it with another drive and re-image it from your backup. I use Acronis True Image, which makes this very easy to do.
3) Add your MP510 as a data drive and use the Corsair Toolbox to Secure Wipe it.
4) Finally run the Magician Performance Benchmark again.

This would definitely lock down if there is an issue with the drive.
Nothing worse than RMA'ing something, for it to get thrown back at you as "no fault found".

Unless anyone else has any suggestions.

Good luck.

PS. Probably just a coincidence... but 600MB/s is basically SATA3 speeds!

The drive could be overheating and throttling I suppose, but not this badly I would have thought!

PPS. Had a quick GOOGLE and only issue like this I can find, is due to heat issues.
What's the air flow round your M.2 slot like?
You could run Crystal Disk Info while running the Magician Performance test. That way you could check the drive temp/s.

Defiantly sounds like a plan. I googled the hell out of this issue and like you say, heat seems to be the main issue. I will try some different software and also post some of the drive info.

I just adjusted the power plan and made no difference. I will take a look at the firmware idea but as its my boot drive, I will need to be very careful.
Thanks for everyone's help. I will contact the shop I got it from and see what they say.

I have decided to rma the drive but as its my os drive I just ordered a Samsung SSD 980 1tb for £100. Seems to be a solid drive for the money, will be interesting to see how it performs.

Yes I just read about Adata, defiantly going to avoid that one.
Samsung SSD 980 £100
Samsung 970 evo pro £125
Crucial P5 plus £126
Crucial P5 £89
WD black sn750 £109

The reviews on the 980 seem decent so do I stick with it or cancel and go with a deferent drive? My machine is used for gaming 95% of the time.

To be honest you're probably fine with it
Unless you really care about minor differences
In benchmarks and stuff
Or want to dive into every little aspect of each drive compared to the other
Or are doing a load of moving files around
Most of them will feel the same for everyday use
I can't really tell when using my old sm951 compared to my mp510s
Except when I move a load of files from one drive to the others
Its a very good point. My son is running his gaming setup off an MX500 and its just as quick as mine.

Yeah part of the thing is
If you go read reviews they go into stuff that
Everyday users just won't notice
Simply because they review stuff for a living
So are kind of expected to go Into minute
Details
And pretty sure Samsung also did the sneaky swap components trick
Though don't remember which drive
But yeah people who reviews drives for
A living will definitely be more critical
Since just saying yeah it's a good drive
To every drive would make a
Pretty boring review
Lol. Very disappointing to hear about Samsung, from what I can see its the 970 evo plus that they messed with. Not good.

Totally agree with the above comment.

If you are getting a new O/S drive. Then if it was me, I'd still be interested in doing what I suggested earlier (IE. Secure Erase the MP510 and test it as an empty data drive). I wouldn't take that long to do.

Good luck what ever you decide.

PS. Worth pointing out that the OP's mobo is only PCIe 3.0, so he obviously would not see any immediate benefit to a V4.0 drive.
Yes will be trying this. I am going with a new drive in my machine, I will then test the Corsair and decide to RMA it or not. When all is good, I will stick it in my sons pc

Just a quick update. Installed the 980 today and works perfect. Just installed a fresh copy of win 10 on the old Corsair and now I am getting 2102 mb/s sequential read as advertised.
so looks like my son is getting a new boot drive.
Thanks again for all the help
