M25 Cameras fail to catch anyone in 12 months

So from the sounds of the article, they're admitting some of the cameras aren't even working, while I'm assuming the others simply haven't been effective.

What an excellent waste of taxpayers money.

While I'm not a regular user of the M25 (don't think I've even had the pleasure yet) I do use the stretch of M6 with the same type of cameras, and I would be very interested to find out their statistics as well.

I think they're also 'upgrading' part of the M62 to the same spec?

The amount of people that cruise past when I've been in a car sat on the limit on the M6 section says to me that they've probably not caught anyone either.

I'm a regular M25 user and I know of a few people who have been caught within the last year...

I assume by the variable limit, and often see the cameras flashing drivers.....???

Huffington post / media spouting drivel shock?

I have a friend who works in this sector. I was asking him about the variable speed cameras around the QE2 crossing. Apparently, if the matrix signs displaying the speed limit have even one LED unit malfunctioning, then any speeding fines issued by the attached camera cant be enforced - even if the malfunctioning LED isn't required to be lit to display the speed limit. And apparently, LED failures are quite common, considering each sign contains about 2000 of them.

Time to go back to the old metal "flipper" like designs then?

One thing that I have wondered - is there a "grace period" from when temp speed limits are shown on the signs and when the cameras are activated?

Ive been coming up to one at 70 and literally just before I reached it the sign came on for 50 - with not enough time to slow down without doing some seriously reckless braking. I would have assumed they had thought of this and had a 10 second+ delay from the sign coming on to the cameras activating - but you never know.

No ticket came of it so assume it must be the case but don't want to try out that theory again! :D

He told me this as well. I can't remember the exact number, but it was much higher than you think - at least 5 minutes IIRC.

M25 and race track in the same sentence. Have they tried going quick round there ? The old heathrow section used to send my suspension to the bumpstops on my s2000 at anything over 60 !

Well I use the M25 almost daily, and to be honest you're never at the NSL or close to the advised speeds for it to matter - certainly on the stretch I use. However, I do slow down if ever I am able to get to a speed that require me to slow down to drive at the displayed speed.

Besides, I'm not keen on getting any points and not willing to throw caution to the wind over it!
