I've just got back from Newcastle, which is about 320 miles away from here, when I went I got there in 4 hours, coming back I made it 300 miles down the M1 in about 4 hours, then I hit the M25 and it took me 1 and a half hours to go the last 20 miles :( not only that in the last 5 miles of the journey some bint jabbering away on her mobile decided my car wasn't there and just moved over, causing me to swerve onto the hard shoulder (thank god I wasn't in any other lane) These SPECS cameras on the road works are damn annoying too, my trusty road angel helped me though :D

All in all a good trip though and gave my xr3i a nice run, car drove superbly and was very responsive

Preach!

It's a nightmare most of the time. I travel from Kent to Berkshire to I'm on from J5 to J12 and it's infuriating. Although it does give me time to read the paper in the morning.

I'll be glad when charter helicopters flights are cheaper!

My early morning Sunday toots down to Goodwood tend to be quite quiet on the way down but, even on Sunday, coming home at ~11am past Heathrow is usually slow.

I usually by-pass the m25 - I seriously seldom use it. From my house it's easier to go through London to get to the M1 - I can do it in under and hour anyway so it's not too bad.

I'd normally aim to hit it late at night but had no choice today as I had to get home this morning otherwise my mate who came with me was going to get sacked from his job for not turning up, weds or thurs and if I'd left tonight he would have missed today as well :p

I used to use the M25 daily, stopped about 2 years ago now.

It was fine, very rarely was it ever actually seriously congested, with the exclusion of accidents and mishaps.

Its a much maligned road, that does a job. You would all be moaning if we all had to use the 406!!

I used to drive it daily too. The top of the M25 was usually between St Albans and Stansted. Then they started doing roadworks . It's now a hellish place to be. The 40mph limits cause absolute chaos on roads which are as busy as the M25.

I had the shock of my life the other day on the M25 round near the turn off for Stanstead. First time in my life I have ever seen traffic lights on the main lanes of a motorway.

They always cause much amusement :)

Yeah I drove through there, was trying to work out why the hell there were traffic lights lol

You want traffic? Pop round to Junction 2, they are reworking the entire M25/A2 junction near Bluewater/where I live. 50MPH limits on the A2 reinforced by SPECS means that come rush hour at about 4.30PM, the whole area around Dartford is chaos.

And we've got this until the work is complete in 2008 :(

A few weeks ago, I crawled along the M25 all the way from Leatherhead to the M40 turnoff :(

Absolute nightmare.
