Going through a section of the M42 today.

Off the M6, onto the M6 toll, you pass through a section of the M42 which I wasn't aware of.

I went under about 3 overhead gantries which have the variable limit, they were off so the limit was 70 as normal.

Noticed they have white lines marked out for gatso/speed enforcement afterward.

Do they only operate when the gantries are live? A bit of searching shows they only have a few cameras and rotate them around the gantries, though this is true I don't know. Everyone around me was going fairly quickly, and I didn't see any flashes or anything.

Same as the M25 mate, they are only operational while the gantry is live. If it is off there is no enforcement.

Thats what I would like to hear, I was winding up for the M6 V-Max run, building up the boost so I could crack 68 and go back to the future.

I may have been doing a little more than the posted limit, but I would have been paying more attention to the road than my speedo. ;)

Quite a few forums (pepipoo) are saying that the cameras are not type approved, though they are older posts and it could have changed since then.

I always worry whenever I come back up to Birmingham that they may have changed the law/cameras to work whilst there's no limit posted. If only I have a car PC I could check on the move! :p
