.m4a convert to .mp3?

nothing as they are DRM'ed, there was a program that could break the DRM and convert to mp3 but obviously this is along the lines of dodgey and i think apple stopped it from working a few updates ago.

are they bought from the itunes store (.M4p)? If so are protected using DRM which wont allow you to convert the file to any other codec as this will break the DRM. However if they're unprotected .AACs ripped from CDs you can use iTunes itself to convert the file to MP3. I wouldn't recommend this though as you'll loose a lot of quality. Converting a lossy format (MP3,AAC,WMA) into another lossy format will cause quality to be lost. You'll be better off re-ripping the tracks if the files are from CD's

noo wernt bought off apples site, the cd's were ripped using itunes, ah cheers anyways dudes, main reason was that my iriver doesnt read aac format so wanted to put it on my iriver if i *** have converted them

i didnt think about that till after i had posted im just so used to only using itunes to play songs ive bought from them lol

thats why itunes + ipods are really rubbish, becuase they don't use mp3

iaudio mp3 players and iriver are 10x better

Er what? My ipod plays mp3's no problem at all.

M4A doesn't use drm and can be converted by normal transcoding software.

If your ripping cds don't use aac use lossless.

I agree that the ipods poor format support is annoying, ogg is license free but still the ipods cant play it because apple want to pimp their **** aac format.
