I don't know if anyone can help me with this, but basically I can't see my m4a encoded songs in WMP.

After downloading the free 3ivx codec, they play in WMP without any problems, I can add a load of them to 'now playing' and go through them and even create a playlist. However they do not show up in my library.. when adding all of my songs to WMP, it comes up with the right number of songs to add, but once it's finished I can only see mp3 songs and not m4a.

Does anyone have any ideas as to how I can get them to show up in the library?

I'm using the latest version of WMP and running Vista home premium.

Lastly, I know I could switch to iTunes or something like Songbird, but the former I find slow and the latter not polished enough.

Thanks for any help,

Felix

wmp has little support for m4a files, surprised it work at all

are you just looking to have them in a library? or just to play them?

As I said it plays them perfectly well, I just cannot *see* them in my library. I've found this on another forum

"Just change the file type filter to all files and add the m4a file. WMP 11 will play AAC encoded music, Microsoft just didn't include the m4a extension for some reason."

Unfortunately I can't find the option for file type filter in WMP 11 at all... anyone know where it is?

The solution is to

A) Install the free 3ivx codec
B) Install and enable 'Tag Support Plugin for Media Player' by Softpointer
C) Add m4a files and they should appear in your library, they were actually in my library before but under 'other media' and not with music. You may have to remove your whole library and re-add it all. I did anyway.
