M4P convertor

My wife is migrating away from the apple universe. Her ipod has died, so going forward her main music device will be her sony z3 compact android phone. She has several albums of music which are in the protected m4p format. Can anyone recommend me a safe, preferably free way of converting these. some of the website offering conversion look a bit dodge.

I know it is possible to pay £20 to apple to upgrade to the itunes match, but that seems stupid as we are moving away from apple devices and it seems wrong to have to pay them twice.

Bit of a post and run as I haven't used any, but if I were to, I'd probably pick one of them. I can usually tell the dodgy ones.

Burn to CD then rip?

May be a little cumbersome if she has a lot of tracks.

£20 for Match seems worthwhile if it'll strip the DRM.
