Hi folks,

Very simple question I'm going down to Banwell (not far from Weston SM) tonight from Bristol, google says I should take the A38, but I think the M5 might be quicker.

Anyone in the know?

Cheers,
Paul

It would depend on where in Bristol you are going from.

From south Bristol, I would go down the A38... Banwell is about 25 mins from the Airport.

If i was going from Almondsbury way then i'd go down the M5 and get off at junction 21.

I'm close to the bottom end of Gloucester road, Cotham

Depends entirely on the traffic..! The bane of Brizzle.

I'm off to Devon on Friday and thinking the A38 might be less likely to have hold-ups than the M5 (which esp on a Friday is often jammed Southbound).

A Tuesday evening though, not sure... Otherwise from yours I'd probably try to get out to the M5 via the Portway (to hit M5 Jtn 19).

Thread revival!

Off to Devon tomorrow afternoon, will probably escape Bristol about 3-4pmish, at which time it is generally bad news for the M5 Southbound around here.

But which way to get to the M5?

a) Along the Portway (A4 along the Gorge) and hop on at Jtn 18,
b) Across the suspension bridge and get on at Jtn 19,
c) B-roads to Jtn 20 via Clevedon,
d) A370 to Jtn 21 near Weston-Super-Mare,
e) Finally A38 past the airport and all the way down to Jtn 22?

Argh, the choice. Are the A roads heading south-west as clogged as the M5 southbound around here usually is?

Its all going to be bad Sara, people think that they can go a back road instead of the motorway, unfortunately lots of people think the same thing.
Just go earlier or later :]

Can't get out much earlier - and later - meh, don't really want to hang around.

That's fine - if it's all the same then buggrit we'll just go for the easiest option! That's probably the Portway or sus-bridge route from where the boyfriend lives.

portway will start getting busy around the later of your time frame. set off at 3 and you should start beating the traffic. though it is friday and those in the docks might get out early!
