I am trying to adapt a set of old Manfrotto legs and put a ball head I already have on it to make a compact-ish travel tripod, rather than buy a new one.

The legs are 714SH Digi (pretty old) and came with a not so pleasant pan/tilt head. I've taken the head off and it has an M5 thread in the centre column. The ball head I want to attach is 3/8" threaded.

I have found and ordered an M5 to 1/4" thread adapter from ebay that's coming from China and the delivery date is 28 Feb, however I go on holiday first week of March and don't want to risk it not arriving in time.

I'm struggling to find any other alternative M5 to 1/4" or 3/8" adapter and maybe I'm approaching this the wrong way. I do not know a lot of about tripods and heads so maybe there's a different way?

Any help appreciated :)

Thought I would conclude this exciting thread (geddit?). Turns out after the adapters arrived it was not M5 but M6 and M6 to 1/4” seemed equally as hard to come by.

So with plenty of oil and some mole grips I just slowly wound the 1/4” to 3/8” adapter I had into the M6 thread. Not ideal but is solid and has given a fresh lease of life to an old set of legs.
