Mac Air Sound problems anyone?

I have two Airs, one with Hinge problem and the other with Speaker problems, how unucky am I.

Is the speaker problem easily rectified or not?

You can see the speaker icon and also a drop down menu but it is grey and you can't move it, anyone have this problem before?

I've done a google search and have done a few things they asked me to do and still no joy.

Everytime I switch the MBA on, the speaker symbol comes on but then after 5 or 10 secs after loading it goes grey again, I have been to many mac forums but they don't seem to have the answers for my problem.

It also says no output or input on Audio can be found, so really in a pickle, can someone help please.

I would have but my external dvd rom isn't with me as it is being borrowed by a mate of mine, I will get it back in a few weeks time when he is back over here
