I've been using Time Machine/Time Capsule for my mac which works like a dream..
If you have a router - try NAS - AFAIK WD do a mybook world edition which has an ethernet port on it... Some folks have had difficulty getting them to work on purely mac based networks - but initially set up on a pc and then connecting a mac afterwards and setting up shares seems to work!
EDIT// Don't install the software that comes with it!
I'd agree with the first poster on the other thread though - any digital photography should be backed up on cd/dvd.... I too learnt that the hard way when i left the window open in my old house and soaked my computer and external drive..all my photos gone.. i *luckily* managed to dry the external disk - but only just!
Good luck! I'm sure the more knowledgeable bods will be around in a bit...
I'm not sure how to sync the Windows and Mac computers together. But once on the Mac I just use Time Machine for a local backup and Mozy.com for an off-site backup. It took ages for the initial backup to complete but now it hardly takes any time at all and I schedule it for when everyone's in bed!
Don't overlook an off-site backup. Otherwise in the event of theft or a fire all your data will still be lost.
