hello!
so its been about 8 months now since i moved all my personal fun stuff over to my mac.. i still have a good PC with lots of storage which acts as my Server plus does some other windows based fun stuff too.
so my windows based machine as lots of storage and i keep my backups there for all my other machines.
so i have tried carbon copy cloner and that works a charm to create a bootable back up of my system but tbh what i want it is something like i have on my windows machine with acronis true image. Everytime i tell my windows machine to shutdown it scans for changes then updates the image files on the server so i always have a true image.. its only takes a few second everytime i shut down and gives me piece of mind that i can live my life without fear or hardware or software failure.
So now i am looking for something similar for my mac. something that can scan for changes then update a backup file on my windows based server using SMB networking, now i believe this is what time machine is a lot about
but since its not going to be here until October i need solution for the here and now.
its doesn't need to be a bootable backup, something which is prob impossible over a network ( i might be wrong thought? ) But it would be nice if i could boot form a CD and configure it to restore over the network. The main thing is though is that the backup manages its self and is compressed as much as possible when saving to the server, and is stored on a windows machine.
so what are you guys outthere using for your mac backups ? and can they do what i need?!
thanks!
