mac book pro battery life

Friends one gets 3.5-4ish hours real world usuage his is a 17" but without the LED backlight, also it will be cheaper for you to blag one using the student discount than buying it in the states.

Buying in the States is definitely cheaper than buying on HE discount in the UK. Providing you don't get stung with import tax, but then again, it will probably work out cheaper with that added.

I get about 4-5 hours on battery with general use. (Music, MSN and Office work)

Hmm I would say ~4 hours. Even brand new with just 2GB I think you'd be extremely lucky to get 5 hours.

Things like dimming the screen from 1/2 to one 'blip' seems to gain 30 minutes of battery time for example.

If you're hammering the CPU (such as large parallel compile with 4GB) and running best performance expect that battery time to reduce drastically with a figure of <1-2 hours possible.

it will be coming back in my hand luggage, leaving the box in new york at my girlfriends so im hoping I don't get stung.

I'll have the box posted out to me a few days later.

My mistake just actually did the sums and it is cheaper, I was going by a work mate who bought the base MacBook when in the states and after commision on his credit card it cost a tad over £600. (not sure if local sales tax comes into it aswell never really checked) He could have blagged his for £590 with a 3 year warranty under the HE discount and not having the hassle of getting the box sent over think that cost him a good £10-20 aswell.

If he is getting the 2.5ghz 15" for £900 looks like he is getting further discounts though. Straight conversion is £1174 assuming you don't pay sales tax so certainly looks cheaper I may need to wait even longer for one and pick up a MBP when I am in NY in October just seems all I do is wait for this MBP..............
