Mac laptop shuts down at startup

I've tried resetting the PRAM and SMC but that hasn't worked. Could it be a problem with the hard drive?

It get's to the bit with the grey screen, apple logo and spinning wheel ane then shuts off.

There is a problem with the logic board so the battery holds no charge and it goes off whenever the charger comes out. I was thinking maybe the charger has been pulledmout and that has done something to it?

try powering on with out the battery in the unit... or try booting from usb or os disc to see if its the harddrive.

if its the same re-seat the memory; its accessible in the battery bay
