I couldn't seem to find anything else about this, maybe I just didn't look hard enough, anyway...

When I sat down this morning to use my new unibody MacBook I normally in a morning check my emails first, so I launched the Safari, twhirl, and Mail and everything was fine like normal. But then about 10 minutes later I'm checking email on Safari when Mail bounces in the dock and pops up a box prompting me to enter my password again, (this has happened before and normally I just enter my password and everything is fine) so I entered my password and the box went away, then within 5 seconds it was back, so I tried entering my password another 3 times but still the same result. The next thing I tried was to delete the account and set it back up. when trying to set the account back up I get this message...

Trying to log onto the AIM IMAP server "imap.aim.com" failed. Make sure the user name and password you entered are correct, then click Continue. If the information isn't correct, you cannot receive your email.

Now I know it's not me entering my password wrong or anything because I can log onto the account in Safari fine. Just a heads up, I am using a AOL AIM account, which I have had now for the past 2 years working fine.

Can anyone help me out please and thank you???

I still cant get it to work even when trying to change the server.

This is very strange and annoying!! I have everything running through this email.

The IMAP server could be under maintenance? This happens now and again with MobileMe.

If you rely on it for everything (bad idea) why not configure automatic forwarding on the AOL account and set up a Gmail accoun?

That will give you better uptime / other benefits whilst also retaining the IMAP functionality and ensure that if one goes down, you're not screwed.

You could even create an alias (on Gmail) so no one would realise if you had to make an emergency reply on the Gmail account. I use this on my MobileMe account if I need to send an email but I don't want them to have the real address (replying to it works, but I can nuke the alias if they insist on replying to it, without closing the account ;))

Thanks for the advise and it is now up and working fine again. I might just do that with my gmail account, as I don't use it for anything.
