Is it ok to slap in an 7200RPM HDD in these? or maybe an SSD perhaps? :D

5200RPM just isnt right, I'm not used to bouncing apps in the dock since having an SSD MacBook Air!

Tho only difference is I THINK, not sure on this, but by opening up a Mini it voids the warrenty.

Yeah, the Mini isn't user-upgradeable.

I'm sure it would be okay so long as you don't get a hot-running drive. Wouldn't be worth the effort personally but we all know what you're like. :p

I've got an SSD in mine - now it's near silent and blindingly fast.

Brilliant piece of kit.

Take your time on taking it apart though, it can be a little fiddly.

It's not that hard come on!! I've changed the drive in mine multiple times now... Just takes a bit of patience.

It's not that it's hard, it's that it's quite easy to knock that IR board off.

I'd do it again no problem. It's not fun though, that noise coming from you brand new £500 toy is horrible :/

Could an Apple Retail Store or an Authorised Service Centre do it?

I've got a 2.4GHz C2D Santa Rosa MBP which is the one where the HDD is a royal PITA to get at. So I chickened out and got Farpoint (in Bath) to do it with me supplying the drive (Seagate Momentus 7200.4 500GB 7200RPM from OcUK), they charged £40 which seemed alright.... also remember that me opening it up would have instantly voided the AppleCare!
