Hi,

I have a mac mini i5 2.3 with 8GB of ram and a 500GB disk, this meets our needs quite well. The only downside is it seems to be on a go slow some of the time, or can sort of pause and having the spinning beach ball for 5-10 seconds and then carries on fine. nothing intensive just iLife stuff and email and web browsing.

I had been thinking about putting in a SSD disk in, this would improve things in terms of performance and then could use the 500GB disk for User storage.

I could upgrade to an i7 one but this would be quiet a bit of an outlay and possibly may not be much of an improvement over an i5 with SSD disk.

Alternatively I could get an old mac pro for around £500 xeon 2.2GHz but realistically the mini is probably better keeping.

any thought's / advice
thanks

You pretty much nailed it yourself. I wouldn't bother with an i7 over an i5. SSD is the way to go and you certainly don't want to buy into old Apple gear.
