Guys,

Been having some issues with my Mini recently, basically if it's got the case on the fan runs at full speed (5500rpm) and the only reported temperature in iStat is HDD, no others. Machine then powers down after 2-3 minutes.

If the case is off, all temperatures are reported as normal and it runs perfectly.

Sadly its out of warranty so I can't take it back to Apple store.

I would say to get a fan control software but the fact it powers down means that the CPU is overheating. Sounds like it might need looking at.

I don't think it is over heating, I think it THINKS it over heating.

It only does it when the case is on, none of the temperature sensors work when case is on, chances of it shorting out on something on the case?

Yep, made no difference.

I think it's something causing the mac to not get a signal from the temperature sensors, it then panics and puts fan on full speed, as it still gets no signal it panics further and shuts down.

It's running spot on now, only it's not got a case on it!

good to hear you sorted it, was going to suggest there wasn't something obstructing the cpu fan while the case was on :)
