MAC MINI + LOGITECH HARMONY (ULTIMATE) + PLEX or XMBC setup

Hi all,

I was impressed by a demonstration I watched of how the 3 aforementioned system serve as a seamless home media entertainment system.

I am not used to apple OS system and wondering if anyone here can kindly advice on how this (MAC MINI + LOGITECH HARMONY (ULTIMATE) will usually be set up to that effect please. Apparently I could use REMOTE BUDDY, XMBC or more alternatives, not sure how this is done.

System

Mac Mini (HDMI connection to amplifier) - OS X Yosemite - 3.06 GHZ intel core 2 duo
Logitech Harmony smart remote / iOS app
PLEX software ..XMBC/KODI

Ideally, I would like to set up an ACTIVITY on my remote which leads to PLEX/kodi xmbc starting up on my TV

Not really any configuration required, set you logitech as a plex player and it will control it all without any extra software required.
 
thanks Crispy. You reckon I should set it up as Plex-player as a DEVICE not ACTIVITY.

How does my logitech remote recognize the mac mini which has the plex player though?

Ideally, I would like to set up an ACTIVITY on my remote which leads to PLEX/kodi xmbc starting up on my TV

I'm looking at HTPC options for either Plex or Kodi and seen the Mac Mini
How do you find it? What demonstration did you see?
 
Im sure I was reading somewhere on AVForums recently there was an issue with Fire and HD files - will have to track it down (it seems a few things are being released recently that are great for "limited" media duty, but with HD you start hitting issues)

As easy as any other option. I think both Plex and Kodi are on the Amazon store now and the Ultimate works with it.

I play full HD mkv files over the network from my server fine? What are the issues being reported?
 
Picked up a Fire tv this afternoon on the way home and looks a good box
having problems getting kodi on though as although i've followed a guide online, as soon as kodi starts and gets to the end of the progress bar for '1st run' it crashes and wont start

any ideas?
 
Cool, got set up over the weekend and now working a treat

Tested with the Up over the weekend which was a 20+GB file and no issues with lag or buffering at all

Very impressed
