Hey guys, picked this up locally at a stupidly low price of £40. wanted to taste mac myself for a while, could never get hackintosh to work, so this was an utter bargain, i gave him an old psp as i never use it too and he wanted 100 so i thought utter bargain.
its the 1.25ghz powerpc chip, 1gb WiFi works. Just wondering, what will it run? what apps and programs should i install? as far as i know, it runs tiger but can run leopard, has CS4 on, and a few other bits n bobs.

thanks!

ste

Main purpose of use: mini media box, to learn mac, never game, just movies and trying out the OS, maybe some photo work when bored, to take to mates house for movie watching and stuff.

£40 for a bit of fun is pretty decent, massive shame its just power pc though, you are stuck there that you'll be looking the web for old powerpc stuff from 6/7 years ago now :( (very surprised its been so long since intel came to apple town)

If you can get Leopard onto it that'll be a good basic intro into current osx, but its improved a lot in the last 4-5 years and is quite different....

IIRC I had the 1.25Ghz! It'll run Tiger and upto X 10.5.8 according to everymac.

Perhaps try installing a fresh copy of 10.5 and have a play around with vlc or xbmc?

Not sure how well video of the HD kind will run on the Radeon 9200? Should be good for dvds and avis

It won't play HD video, Thats a promise, My old Powermac G5 with dual 2.0Ghz processors struggled with 720P playback,
It will play standard definition video etc etc without breaking a sweat.

It'd be alright as a music server, or file server, can't think of many more uses for it tbh, Heck it'd work fine as a well typewriter, basic word processing, but that's about it.
