Just upgraded the RAM in my Mini... Quite the unnerving experience! Quite hard cracking the thing open - the back just wouldn't come loose.

Managed to knock part of the infrared receiver off while I was doing it. Oops. Fortunately I don't use it, but even so - not good.

Still, I've managed to get the thing back together again and get it working, so overall the mission was a success!

I think decent tools are help for this job. I knew the theory so had a go with a kitchen fish slice/spatula thing and well and truly failed and killed the implement in the process. Not so much as a scratch on the mini. So it was off to the local DIY barn to get a flexible putty knife which did the trick for £6. The el-cheapo ones were just too thick and not bendy enough. Way I see it I still saved a fortune on the Apple price!

It's an interesting experience upgrading the Mac mini.

I put some extra ram and a 500gb hard disk in mine last week, all went well as I researched on the interweb on how to open the thing up.

I did however manage to snap off one of the metal clips inside which had deformed enough to prevent me from getting the case back on.

Still overall like MagicBoy said, beats giving Apple the money to do it. :D
