Mac Mini Super Drive Died :(

But for some reason it still plays CD's, anyone had this happen before? its the same drive that is in my old Acer Ferrari Laptop which is more than 2 years old now and still going strong.

I've tried cleaning it manually, should I just bite the bullet and buy a new one?

The warrenty run out in October which is a bummer

tried running apple hardware test?

if that fails just try and source a new slot loading drive.

I've had drives fail, with some bits working and some not. I think multi-format read/write drives have several lasers in them, so if one goes you can end up with some bits working and some not.

Probably time for a new drive...

no need already had it in bits to upgrade the ram, I've had the drive in bits too since and tried to clean the laser but its still not having it.
