Mac or Linux

I have seen and tried Vista and am not that chuffed, especially at the cost and hardware requirments. So, I thought, why not move to a Mac which we are told doesn't crash like Windows, is easier to use and doesn't have virus and malware problems either. Sounds a good idea and I have more or less decided to go ahead and get a Mac Mini and try it out. However.....

There seems to be a lot of people here on Linux sounding pretty chuffed with their systems and I wondered, do I go with Mac; solid product that is easy to use; or Linux in which I have a lot of learning to do? I am sure someone will have a view on this one.

Also, if I go with Linux, I have a celeron notebook with 192MB memory. Is this good enough for the Linux the Linux proponents are suggesting?

I would be grateful for any help here.

Whoops, sorry, I dfidn't make myself clear. I am considereing either; -

1. A Mac Mini
or
2. A New Build Linux machine. However, I have a laptop on my desk on which I could put Linux to try it out. It would hardly be a permament solution, just a way of seeing how I got on.

Thanks for your replies, guys, the are appreciated. Do I get the impression that OS X is not that great? I know Vista seems a bit problematic which is why I am looking at Macs. I was hoping to get a Mac and its better OS. As it is, most are saying Linx would be better.
