mac os 9 help

Hi,

I'm new to Mac's, infact never used one. My friend has given me his imac, which has os9.1 installed. He has forgotten his password and has lost install disks.

Can anyone tell me how to format it, i said i would help as thoght it can't be that different to a windows machine.

Please help

Buy an osx install disk, put in drive hold option key upon booting to boot from the disk click next a few times.

Which iMac is it?

You will probably need to find a 10.4 install disk from somewhere!

Ebay has it for £5 and up.

I sold my 10.3 and 10.4 copies for more than I bought them for years ago.

Well pleased with that outcome! £100 odd in the bad from those two alone!

Hi Peeps,

I got an OS 9.1 install disk off ebay, and it was a .toast file, so i renamed it to a .iso and burned it, using a vista pc.

I can't get the mac to boot from it though, i have tried holding down the c key on start up.

How do i make it bootable?

Hi,

I still haven't solved this problem, i have now got some genuine copies of mac os. (not cheap :mad:

)

Non of them will boot, i have tried holding down the c key from startup like it says on the cd,

Am i doing anything wrong, as i am a pc user, i am used to a bios, how do you get into the mac's bios and check that the cd drive is ok to boot from

Help please
