You can get a stripped down Windows via XPlite or 98lite. Is there such a thing for Mac OS? I've just picked up an old Powerbook and it doesnt seem very capable. I just want something that'll be fast and smooth for net browsing.

Well if you wipe the system with the OS X disk you should be able to choose what you want to add when your reformatting...

In this case; select the bare minimum, then once it's installed just go in to the "Applications" folder and take out any program you don't need

i had a 400mhz g4 titanium with a 20gb hdd and 512mb ram running osx. was pretty usable for web browsing/email etc.,

just make sure you've got at least 512mb ram and you should be alright.

A RAM upgrade might do the trick. A few more specs on the Powerbook would be useful too.

Maybe a PPC Linux distribution like Ubuntu might run nicely for basic web browsing needs as well.
