Mac OSX - .DS_Store

Hello,

I'm quite new to Mac OSX however I have these DS_store files now I know these are apart of the file system of the operating system however is there anyway to hide things?

There's one of my desktop that I can't get to hide?

any clues?

They can do what they like I just don't want to see them.

That seems to just show how to hide them from windows based clients. I want to hide the files within mac osx so I can't see them

I don't use OSX so am just guessing. There are no "not show files by type" options in the gui?

inside get info of the file there is an option for hide extension but it is greyed out?

By default they shouldn't be shown in the GUI

Have you changed any settings with tweak programs?

Not that I'm aware of one day they just suddenly started appearing.

Any suggestions of where to check?

Delete it, and see if it comes back after a re-start.

Yup it re-creates it as soon as I delete it....

Try typing this in the Terminal.

defaults write com.apple.finder AppleShowAllFiles FALSE
killall Finder

EDIT: Actually, before you do that. Try repairing permissions in Disk Utility. It might be cured by that.
