mac osx tiger .zip files not work on windows?

I tried to open a .zip i made on my macbook (ctrl click archive) on my windows pc and it didnt quite work. the files were in the zip file but it wouldnt open and there were extra files in the zip file too.

how can i zip something on a mac and use it in windows?

usually zip files between the two os' work fine, but that seems strange are you using the zip program built into windows or winzip/winrar?

zip built into windows.
this is what i am doing:
1.ctrl click folder on my desktop on mac
2. create archive
3. transfer to windows via usb
4. open .zip folder on windows pc

it shows the folder fine, its when i open the folder it has extra files in, filenames look like mac system files or something along them lines.

The mac makes ._ type files all over the shop to store icon layouts etc.. I know there's utility to not create them on networks, but do not put them in a zip you will probably need the command line and tell it to ignore certain file types.

the extra files are normal part of the HFS+ file system, you can always turn off show hidden files on windows and they shouldn't appear
