Mac - password protect file?

Hi. I have Mac OS X Panther installed on my iBook. I want to password protect a file (in this case, a Pages document). Is this possible? If so, does anyone know how?

I've noticed File Vault, but not really sure if this is the thing I'm looking for?

Any help would be much apppreciated. Thank you

Although you could make a password protected .dmg image as I've done this before for several files on my system.
