I purchased a top end apple mac pro 15' retina last year, just noticed that there is a small burn in the screen ; it's bearable but slightly annoying especially on white backgrounds.

My warranty expired just over a month ago so I will have no support from apple, with the exception of a full repair which I would envisage being expensive.

I could buy a screen from ebay for £175 but don't feel confident of replacing it myself, just wondered if anyone knew cheaper options and what I would expect to pay to a third party repair shop if I provided the replacement part myself.

Is it actually burnt, or is it just image retention (ie, it goes after a minute or so). Some of the screens (LG iirc) suffer with this. I had mine replaced because it bugged me. However, the white balance on my new screen is icky yellow. Not sure which I preferred tbh.

Take it to Apple, even if it is a month out of warranty it should not matter.

I think it's screen burn although may be wrong.

I tried to take a photo but it was hard to see, it looks simalar to what's in this picture, although a qtr of the size, enough to be annoying.

Google 'mura' seems to be that. Apparently caused my impact/pressure to the lid.

One of mine had that but it was a brand new machine so they replaced it immediately.

edit: I would also be concerned about buying a replacement screen for £175. You can't be sure of the quality and suffer more issues like image retention, yellow tint, pink tint and dead pixels.
