Howdy,

When the new Mac Pro 8-core Penryn Intenl models come out shortly (http://www.macrumors.com/2007/10/18/penryn-based-mac-pros-soon/) I'll be getting one of those to sit along side my MacBook Pro, as I have been waiting a while for these new ones, but have a question that some of you might know the answer to?

Obviously it will come with Leopard, and this will have Boot Camp on it, well I will install Vista x64 on there, but will Vista x64 recognise the 8 core CPU do you know? I don't know of any 8 core PC's these days (I could be wrong, out of the loop with PC's now), so wondering if Vista would recognise I have 8 cores in the Pro?

Cos I would, more than like, chuck my 8800GTX in one of the PCI-E slots for Windows to use (yes Im aware OS X wont use it.. sadly), and that, combined with 8 cores, and 8GB RAM... should make a tasty setup for gaming... right?

Anyone?

ta

You can, so long as you have a secondary card that works with OS X.

OS X won't see the 8800GTX, but it WILL work under Windows.

So long as you can boot in to OS X on a 7300GT then I see no problem running the GTX in Windows (make sure you have the drivers!) :)

Yeah thats exactly what I plan to do. I know the GTX works in Bootcamp, cos people have done it!

You can never have "too" fast machine, if you got the money to spend on a highend machine then do it, thats what I plan to do.

If Im gona buy a mac pro, im not gonna bother with the lowend one, I might aswell spalsh out, and thats what I intend to do! I'll never use it to its full potential, but I want everything to run as smooth as silk!

I havent a clue, I dont even know if they will add Penryn chips to the 4 core models, but Im sure they will beef them up to 2GB as standard at least.

Its all speculation at the moment, but i'm looking forward to seeing what they do... just keep your eyes on macrumors.com!

I have no software the will push it at all, but it will be quite a long term investment.

I might even, when going to buy, opt for the top end 4 core machine instead, I suppose it all depends on what the new range consists of. Hopefulyl they will Penryn the 4 cores too!

Eitherway I'm getting me one of the new penryn Mac Pro's... I'm checking the site everyday in Nov for their release :)

I'll do a few "unboxing" pics when I get it too, I always love seeing peoples unboxing pics of their new macs, be it a Mac mini or a Mac Pro!

I would never sell my 360 and MacBook pro to fund the Mac Pro, but I have the cash to buy a 8 core mac pro, so thats the reason why.

You are right, the 8 core might be excessive, and I think the thought of having 8 cores in my Mac is whats doing it for me.

But I haven't decided yet tbh, I mean I am deffo 100% getting a Mac Pro when the new lot come out, thats for sure, but I'll decide on the 8 or 4 core model when the penryn's come out... for all we know, Apple might not even put penryn's in the lower range 4 core Pros! I'm sure they will do sumin, cos the 4 core Pro's haven't been updated for a year now I think, so they need updated... aswell as improvements in the gfx card and RAM!

When I have decided and received my Mac Pro I'll get pics up and you will see what Pro I opted for. The Penryns are to be released Nov 16th I think, so give Apple a little while longer, and we should have them released late Nov... really looking forward to getting it!

Not even thinking bout resale value, got no thoughts on selling it, just want it first :)

I'm actually using Vista for my everyday stuff at the moment as its quicker than my MacBook Pro, but its making me sick, cos ever since switching to OS X a few months back, I really realise how crap Vista is compared to OS X!

So hurry up  and release the new Mac Pro revisions, I'm itching for a fast, beautiful OS X machine!

It just feels laggy to me?.. Either that or I am just making excuses to get a Mac Pro.

No way im sticky with the MBP though, don;t feel right using a laptop for everyday work, its weird. I need me a desktop, Im a desktop sorta person, and the Mac Pros are sexy looking machines!

Oh and its deffo not feeled with crap, no way, im very fussy like that, only has what I need on it.

And I don't know if its just me, but when those fans kick in, damn, it makes my 360 sounds as quiet as a baby! The fact the laptop is right next to my right ear don't help I suppose

Anyway, nuff gabbling on, Im getting a Mac Pro like it or lump it :)
