I have a couple of issues with both of my machines that I was wondering someone might be able to help with.
Mac Pro:
Firstly, my Mac Pro has had a persistent issue for a little over 6 months now that consists of the following issues:
1) On startup the screen with be covered in dot and dash style stripy artifacts, both horizontally and vertically.
2) I am dual booting on Windows 7 and at the moment it will begin to startup normally then will blue screen telling me it shut itself down to protect itself, referencing something to do with physical memory dump at the end.
3) After this it then reboots to a black screen asking me to choose normal, safe mode, command line etc. If I do nothing it just loops back around through the blue screen. Choosing safe mode loads to desktop covered in artifacts and I can shut down normally etc, but when I reboot it does the same as above.
This first happened about 5 months ago and I have left the machine alone and switched off for nearly that entire time as I haven't had the time to get it fixed. (I tried booting up a few times during this period to see if it worked but with no luck).
However about a month ago I booted it up to see if It was still doing it in order to sort out getting it fixed. Rather than the artifacts and perpetual rebooting it worked fine! and has done until this morning when I booted it up, loaded steam and launched a game. A few minutes later the artifacts came back and when I restarted I got the blue screen etc.
I am guessing it is a Graphics card issue (I have the 8800gt) but am reluctant to spend hundreds on a new card as I am not sure if the booting issue is something separate.
Macbook Pro:
My second issue is with my Macbook Pro. Bad luck seems to have hit me all at once!
The issue I have with this machine is that when using the web to watch videos on when browsing a site with lots of flash it will freeze randomly. This can sometimes last a few seconds, but more often than not causes the machine to stop responding completely and asking me to force shut down.
When it does freeze momentarily it also seems to loose internet connection although I am not sure if this is related.
Sometimes I can go days or a week without it happening and other times It will happen every time I even think about going near youtube or iplayer.
The MBP also has history doing this as only a few months after purchasing it, it started freezing when browsing the web full stop, not just video. However this was years ago and has been working fine up until about 3 weeks ago. The machine is now out of warranty.
At the time it went to Apple 3 separate times and had nearly all of its internals replaced, including: motherboard, airport, RAM etc etc.
I am tempted to wipe it and reinstall the latest OS as I have not yet upgraded to Lion, however hoped to get some feedback from anyone who may have had similar issues or know how to solve them.
Thanks
