Mac Pro Fan Noise?

Howdy,

This is for those that own a Mac Pro mainly.

Do any of you have a problem with one of your front fans? It's probably an isolated incident, but my front top fan makes a really annoying rattling noise now and then.

Its starts, and last for a few seconds and does this several times. Then it will stop and I might not hear it again for a few days... then it will do it again.

I've checked everything is tight in there, and nothing falling around, but I think I will have to open her up at somepoint and have a proper look... and even buy a new fan :(

As I say, this is prob just me, but thought I'd ask to see if anyone else is having this problem... and if they fixed it.

The actual noise is hard to describe, its just a rattle that slowly gets louder, lasts for a bit, then gradully gets lower and then disappears. Then it will return again a few minutes later.

I usually leave my MP running pretty much all the time, I might turn it off one night a week, its left running the rest of the time.

Anyone?

Yeah all the other fans in my machine are like that.. just that top bugger. As I type this everything is fine, can't hear a peep out of it, and havent for a while now. But oh it will come back soon!
 
I've only had mine a month, but its whisper quiet.

Only when the DVD driving is spinning does it get noisy.
 
I have not heard any rattling noises from any of my fans although according to Hardware Monitor, the Fan Expansion Slot fan (the top one) runs at 800RPM which is faster than the three other fans. It could possibly be a faulty bearing in the fan that goes when the fan spins up over 800RPM, but I am just guessing. If it happens again I would get Apple to replace it for you.
