Hey,

Looking to add a new HDD to my Mac Pro - knowing that it has to be SATA - do only certain makes fit? I know that the power and SATA port have to be in the right place to slot in.

Are they all in the same place, the slots on HDDs?

Thanks in advance!

Rich

All SATA hard drives are the same spec in that regards, so you shouldn't have an issue buying any brand :)

I recommend Seagate as they run cooler.

Ive got 3x 500gb Hitachi Deskstar 7K500 SATAII 16MB Cache drives installed in mine, alongside the standard 250gb drive, they work fine and i only notice the noise when they initially spinup, nice and quiet the rest of the time.

Thanks for your help guys - my main concern really was that as on a Mac Pro they slot in, and I want to make sure the ports line up on the new drive (do all SATA drives have the same layout for there ports at the back?

The socket placement is standard across all SATA drives.

The only exception are the early drives that have a 4 pin molex in addition to the SATA power connector, though, they still had the SATA ports in the correct place :)

I could swear I posted this the other day  but have forgot to hit submit :p
