I'm thinking of getting a Mac Pro and was wondering if anyone here is using one, what spec and what monitor they are using with it. Are you happy with it and was it an upgrade over previous computer.

Long story short, I built a high end PC at start of lockdown, it was great for lockdown boredom, sim racing etc but I just don't like using it for any creative stuff ie photo/video editing etc and I ended up keeping my iMac 5K which I now want to upgrade.

I don’t have one, but I’d say go for the minimum spec and upgrade yourself. Apple’s upgrade prices are just absurd.

As for monitors, I use the 5K LG Ultrafine 27-inch ones with my Macs. It’s pretty much the same quality as the 5K iMac. I wish there was a 6K 32-inch like the Pro Display but there isn’t.

When you say upgrade yourself, what can be upgraded yourself on the Mac Pro? on the iMac I just upgraded the memory myself.

Almost everything. CPU, GPU, Ram, SSD (you can use any NVMe M.2) if you use PCIe.

I just watched a video on youtube about it, not quite sure what he was talking about with the graphics cards as there seemed to be an issue but upgrading storage and memory seemed fine (I wouldn't want to update the CPU myself straight away)

When you say pretty much, what is different, I love the iMac 5K display.. that's probably the thing I miss most when on the PC

You can’t use Nvidia.

The calibration is different. I don’t notice any difference and I’m picky, but one is tuned and calibrated by Apple and the other by LG.
